York-area events celebrate the Fourth of July

Are you bored on the Fourth of July? Several local events will offer fireworks, live music and family-friendly fun today.

Here are a few Independence Day happenings:

RED LION’S JULY 4TH CELEBRATION, “A Roarin’ Great Car Show” will be 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Fairmont Park. The event will include all makes and models of cars, and for the first time, motorcycles. Also included will be a performance by the Felton Band, craft and flea market vendors and a chicken barbecue.

FOURTH OF JULY CONCERT AND FIREWORKS, The Cultural Alliance of York County hosts the annual event today at the York Expo Center, 334 Carlisle Ave., West Manchester Township. (Rain date is Thursday.) Gates open at 6 p.m. and parking is free. Music starts at 7:30 p.m. The York Symphony Orchestra, youth orchestras and chorus will be joined by local group Waitin On A Train. Phillip Nathaniel Freeman of The Lone Wolf Project will perform after the finale and before the fireworks slated for 9:20 p.m. HogMaw will perform immediately following the fireworks. The event is free. Donations will be accepted.

OLD FASHIONED JULY 4TH CELEBRATION, Carroll County Farm Museum, 500 S. Center St., Westminster, Md., www.carrollcountyfarmmuseum.org, 410-386-2043, noon today. The Carroll County Farm Museum will host the Old-Fashioned July 4th Celebration and Fireworks from noon until the fireworks end. The fireworks are scheduled to begin about 9:30 p.m. The Kiwanis Club of Westminster will be sponsoring the fabulous fireworks display again this year in conjunction with this popular event. $5 per car load, $1 per walk-in at the gate.

WRIGHTSVILLE 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION will offer events at various locations:

    • 10 a.m., Susquehanna Fish and Game: trap shoot (different age groups). Registration at 9 a.m.
    • 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wrightsville Memorial Playground, 4th and Orange streets: bicycle contest, pet show, Hoops basketball contest, doll show, baby show, Frisbee contest and softball throw.
    • 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. John Wright Building area, Front and Walnut streets: band concert, peanut and lollipop scramble, ice cream walk and fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. (bring a chair).
    • 11 a.m. until sold out, Grace United Methodist Church parking lot, 416 Hellam St.: chicken barbecue. For take out deliveries, call 717-881-7668.

JULY 4 CONCERT AT LONG’S PARK, The free Long’s Park Summer Concert Series hosts a special Independence Day concert 7:30 p.m. at the park, 1441 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster. Allegro: The Chamber Orchestra of Lancaster will perform.

JULY 4 LAWN CONCERT AT THE MANSION, A concert series runs 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. the first Wednesday of every month at the Warehime-Myers Mansion in Hanover. Pre-concert entertainment starts at 5:45 p.m. Hear the Lyric Band perform “It’s A Grand Old Flag!” today.

YORK REVOLUTION, The home-town team takes on the Somerset Patriots at 6:30 p.m. today at Sovereign Bank Stadium, 5 Brooks Robinson Way, York. Celebrate Armed Forces Night. There will be a game-worn camo jerseys and cap silent auction and a Revs camo cap giveaway. A performance by the Spring Garden Band and fireworks are included. Find details at yorkrevolution.com.

HIGHPOINT SCENIC VISTA, Set up your chair or blanket before dusk along the Susquehanna River in Lower Windsor Township tonight. On a clear night, you will see an amazing view of fireworks from multiple venues on both sides of the river. Visit yorkcountyparks.orgfor details.

JULY BLAST, The Jacobus Lions Club’s puts on the July 4 event at Jacobus Community Park on South Main Street. The celebration includes a children’s parade. The day will include baseball, a book sale, face painting, food, fireworks at dusk and more.

INDEPENDENCE DAY FIREWORKS, See the show at Springettsbury Township Park, 1501 Mount Zion Road, after a performance by Urban Guerilla Orchestra at 7 p.m. today. Rain date is July 8. Find details at

COLONIAL COMPLEX, this part of the York County Heritage Trust will be open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. Admission for the day is 50 percent off. There will be tours of the complex, mural tours and Revolution walking tours throughout the morning. Patrick Bochy, of the Trust, will present a 30-minute program on York’s own Major John Clark, who worked as a spy for General Washington. The Historical Society Museum will be closed today. JULY 4 CONCERT, Pleasant View Brethren In Christ Church, 434 E. Lancaster Street, Red Lion, hosts a Fourth of July event at 6 p.m. There will be hot dogs, chips and drinks for sale. Listen to Gospel music at 7:15 p.m. and stay to watch the Red Lion fireworks.
